National Health Mission -to improve quality of health services

New Delhi Jan 30: Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley had tabled the economic survey for the financial year 2017-2018.The Survey had spoken about key issues such as health and said that the government is committed to improve the quality of health services offered.

The Survey has said that "Being a developing economy, there is not enough fiscal space to increase the expenditure on critical social infrastructure like education and health in India. However, given the limited resources, the Government has consistently prioritised strengthening the educational and health profile of the population."

The Survey said, "expenditure on social services as a percentage of GSDP has increased to 6.9 percent in 2016 -17 from 6 percent in 2014-15."

The Survey added that " the government has approved setting up of National Nutrition Mission (NNM) commencing this fiscal. The NNM, as an apex body, will monitor, supervise, fix targets and guide the nutrition-related interventions across ministries."

According to National Health Policy, 2017 " State sector health spending must be increased by more than 8 percent of the State government budget by 2020."
