YSR Copngress demands CBI probe over Polavaram project works

Hyderabad, Jan 18: The Andhra Pradesh opposition YSR Congress Party has been demanding a CBI inquiry into the irregularities of the Polavaram project works.

The Party has said that Chandrababu Naidu government has been treating the multi-purpose project as a milch cow and was used for making money through kickbacks by doling out favors to contractors.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, party spokesperson K Partha Sarathi said, the government has escalated the government to an unimaginable extent which has surprised even the experts.

The motive of the Chandrababu Naidu government is to favor the contractors to get kickbacks and has never been serious in completing the multi-purpose project.

In the first instance, there has been no proper and convincing reply as to why the Project was taken over from the Centre when the State Reorganisation Act has clearly mentioned that it would be the responsibility of the Centre to complete the project after taking necessary clearances.

There has been rampant corruption and misappropriation of funds and the cost has been escalated astronomically for no obvious reason other than to please the contractors for the sake of kickbacks, he said.
