SC grants releif for Padmavat movie ,stays order of ban in states

NewDelhi Jan 18: In a major relief for Bollywood Upcoming Movie Padmavat the Supreme Court on Wednesday has stayed the orders passed by Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana governments to ban the film and also ordered other states not to pass orders of banning the film.

The apex court has said that "once a film is given a certification by the CBFC, no state government can prohibit the release of the film. It is the duty of that particular state to maintain law and order."

Earlier on the Wednesday, the SC had accepted the petition filed by producers against the ban imposed on the film by state governments as it had already obtained censor clearance and the court had heard the matter and passed an order.

Padmavat is a movie directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and it stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.Earlier the Rajput community has objected the release of the film as they felt that the film had distorted history.
