Central Govt forms commitee to review  National Anthem

New Delhi Jan 10: The Central government has announced that It had formed a 12 member committee to make recommendations regarding the playing of the national anthem before the screening of Movie in cinema theatres.

The govt had said that the committee was set up on December 5, 2017, and is mandated to submit its report within 6 months. The committee will recommend changes and suggestions on the regulations for playing/singing of the national anthem and suggest changes in the Acts and orders relating to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 if necessary.



The committee would be led by Additional Secretary B.R. Sharma and will have representations from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Defence, External Affairs, Women and Child Development, Human Resource Development, Culture, Parliamentary Affairs, Law, Minority Affairs and Information and Broadcasting, and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

The first meeting will be held on January 19. earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court has set aside its 2016 order which mandated the playing of national Anthem before movie screening and made it voluntary till the government submits its report.
