SC : national anthem before movie screenings is voluntary

New Delhi Jan 9: In a much-awaited measure and relief for movie lovers the supreme court today has modified its order of mandatorily standing up for the national anthem before movie screenings.

The apex court in its judgment has said that: It is no longer mandatory to show national anthem before movie screening and the center's inter-ministerial committee decision in this regard is final".

The court has said that "the playing of the anthem is voluntary and movie theatres can decide on it and people must stand when the anthem is played".



Earlier the Government on Monday has urged the supreme court has urged to modify its order as it has set up a committee in this regard. earlier the SC has mandated that all movie halls must play the national anthem before the screenings.

Many people have expressed its displeasure about this order and cited that patriotism cant be tested if they don't stand up for the anthem in theatres.
