Lalu seeks minimum punishment citing old age and health

Bihar, Jan 06: Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad has been convicted in a fodder scam case on Friday, Lalu has cited ill health and old age to seek minimum punishment.

The quantum of punishment is getting postponed every day and it has again been postponed for Saturday.

A special CBI court is hearing Lalu's case and has so far recorded the arguments on the quantum of punishment of 10 of the total 16 convicts, including Prasad, in the case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar treasury between 1991 and 1994. Prasad was chief minister of Bihar at that time.

"As per discussions held in the courtroom, there is all likelihood that the judge will pronounce the quantum of punishment to all convicts on Saturday through video conferencing," said Prasad's advocate Prabhat Kumar.
