AP emerges as giant in food processing industry: CS

Vijayawada, Jan 04: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar said the state is emerging as a giant in the food processing industry with the establishments of ultra-mega food parks, cold chain operations, creation and expansion of food procession units.

Addressing the three-day Food Processing Industry Conclave 2018 here on Thursday, the Chief Secretary said that Andhra Pradesh had signed 351 MoUs with an investment of Rs 10,551 crore in various summits.

The government had come out with a comprehensive five-year Food Processing Policy, which provides for several initiatives and incentives to the industry, Mr Kumar said.
Steps were taken to establish "Cold Storage Chain Corporation" for setting up a chain of cold storages all over the state to ensure that the products are not wasted and there is a value addition for the farmers.

Mr Kumar explained that there is huge potential in Andhra Pradesh in the fields of agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture and the state is in the forefront of Eggs, Meat, Chillies, Papaya, Mango, Tomato, Citrus production. The Turmeric, Maize, Ground-nut, Cashew-nut, Cucumber, Meat, Paddy also have huge potential in the State, he added.

FTAPCCI President Gowra Srinivas, General Secretary T S Appa Rao, Chairman of Food Processing Development Committee Bhaskar Reddy, Secretary to the Chief Minister Girija Shankar were among those who are present.
