MiG-29K fighter jet catches fire after it veered off runway

Goa, Jan 03: Indian Navy's MiG-29K fighter jet caught fire after skidding on the runway at Goa airport on Wednesday. A trainee-pilot ejected himself on time and survived the crash. Emergency teams reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported.

The Navy spokesperson said the aircraft caught fire after it veered off the runway. The accident halted flight operations for almost two hours at Dabolim — the only airport in Goa. Arrival and departure of civilian flights at the Goa airport were delayed due to the incident, Goa airport director B C H Negi said.

The Indian Navy operates MiG-29Ks from its aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. Presently India has 45 MiG-29K jets.
