Another BJP leader sparks row: No New year, Must follow Hindu calendar

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 02: Vikram Saini, a BJP MLA for Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar is irked by people celebrating New Year. He said he is a follower of Hindutva and opposed New Year celebration.

He even said that Hindustan belongs to Hindus and everyone should adopt Hindu Calendar.

He said according to Hindu calendar the new year is on March 18.

"I am a hardcore believer of Hindutva. Our nation is called Hindustan which means a nation for Hindus," he said addressing a programme on the occasion of Maharaja Saini Jayanti at Ramlila Tilla in Muzaffarnagar.

This statement of BJP MLA was identical with another BJP leader's statement. Union junior minister for employment and skill development Anantkumar Hegde said that secularism must be removed from Indian constitution. He also said that people "claiming to be secular and progressive do not have an identity of their parents and their blood"
