H1B visa new rule proposed, if approved many Indians will be deported

A new proposal was shared with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which can bar foreign workers from keeping their H-1B visas as they wait for their green card (permanent residence).

The new rule by Donald Trump administration could badly effect many Indians who are waiting for their green card approval in the United States.

If by any chance the new rule is approved the thousands of Indians will be deported. The number of Indian workers who could be sent to India is estimated to be between 50,000 to 75,000.

This move directly impacts India as Indian IT industry sends a large number of professionals. The success of Indian IT industry in the US depends on Indian employees working there on projects. The bill also puts the responsibility on the employer to prove that the employment of a foreign worker has not snatched an opportunity from a US citizen.

The United States issues 85,000 visas every year– 65,000 are for jobs. Nearly 70 percent visas are lapped up by Indians, mostly IT professionals.
