New Delhi Dec 27: The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday had passed The Indian Forest (Amendment), Bill. Earlier the
T Subbirmireddy had moved a statutory resolution opposing the ordinance issued against the amendments to the bill.
Congress members Jayaram Ramesh has opposed the bill and said that it would benefit corporates and not farmers.Many opposition members have also expressed similar concerns.
However, the Minister Harshavardhan has said that the bill would benefit farmers and Tribals would not be impacted. The bill proposes to remove bamboo from the definition of Tree.
Minister had also proposed that bill ensures that bamboo imports would be reduced and would help the rural people as Bamboo is utilized in various fields.
