Lucknow Dec 25: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Sunday had rejected the center's proposal of introducing a Bill to ban Triple Talaq and demanded that the government must withdraw the bill.
AIMPLB spokesperson has said that "The board is of the view that the Bill is against the Constitution, the rights of women and Shariah (the Islamic law). It is also an attempt to interfere with the Muslim personal law. If this Bill becomes a law, women will face a host of difficulties."
The board added that "The proposed Bill is against the basic principles of the Constitution. It is highly objectionable that the Centre did not consult the AIMPLB, any Muslim organization or any stakeholder before preparing the draft."
The center is planning to introduce a bill in parliament next week under which a person would be entitled to a 3-year jail after he pronounces instant triple talaq.
Earlier the supreme court had banned the practice and termed it unconstitutional.
