61 Power projects delayed by 3-136 months

NewDelhi Dec 24: Generally many people believe that construction of new power projects progress on time as they face fewer hurdles in comparison with Raod and Railway infrastructure projects but a Recent Report published by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) for September 2017 has indicated the reverse.

Currently, MOSPI monitors central sector projects envisaging an expenditure of Rs 150 crore and above each on regular basis.According to the report
# The department had monitored 124 projects
# 44 reported cost overrun of Rs 57,756.87 crore.
#The total original cost of these 44 projects was Rs 1,05,404.62 crore.
# The project cost has been escalated to Rs 1,63,161.49 crore.
# 61 projects reported time overrun (delay) of three months to 136 months

However, the department had not indicated the reasons which had led to cost overrun of the projects.
