SC postpones hearing of 85 % pictorial warnings on Tobacco Products

NewDelhi Dec 22: The Supreme Court on Friday had declined to grant interim orders on the Judgement delivered by Karnataka High Court.The high court had recently had recently quashed the government order of printing a pictorial warning that covers 85% of the packaging space on Tobacco products

The Apex court had said that "urgency in the matter is understandable, but no decision till judgment is available.Next hearing is on 8 January." The court had also urged the Karnataka High Court to upload its judgment.

Earlier several petitions were filed against the judgment delivered by the Karnataka high court and urged the supreme court to grant an interim order to stay the judgment.

Earlier the High court had struck down the 2014 amendment rules that mandated pictorial health warnings to cover 85 percent of tobacco product packaging space as it violated Constitutional norms.
