2008 Malegaon blast accused fate to be decided by court

Maharashtra , Dec 21: Fate of six accused in 2008 Malegaon blast will be decided by a special court on Thursday. It is expected to frame charges against the accused and pave way for the trial.

The blast which took place in September 2008, killed six people and injured 101 others. Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) first arrested Thakur after investigation.

The ATS holds that the blast was a conspiracy planned by a right-wing Hindu group and targeted Malegaon's Muslim population.

It then arrested on duty army officer Lt Col Prasad Purohit and retired officer major Ramesh Upadhyay along with few other accused. In all, the ATS arrested 11 people in October and November 2008.

After which the case was transferred to NIA, which gave a clean to Sadhvi and five others citing that evidence are not enough for prosecution.

The six were out on bail but were not discharged from case. The court will decide their fate today.
