Punjab election results: Counting in progress; Congress majority in Jalandhar, Patiala, Amritsar

Punjab, Dec 17: As the counting is underway, Congress secured sweeping majority in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala. Counting is in pogress for the remaning seats.

66 out of 88 in Jalandhar
56 out of 60 in Patiala
69 out of 85 in Amritsar

With this leads congress is winning with majority in Punjab.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh said, "I congratulate people of Punjab for not succumbing to the pressure tactics of the opposition, which had tried hard to derail the free and democratic poll process with its cheap gimmickry and provocative acts."

A total of 925 candidates are contesting for the elections to three municipal corporations with the ruling Congress, the SAD-BJP and the AAP contesting the polls.
