AP Cabinet to withdraw 2014 Police Act

Vijayawada, Dec 17: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Meeting held at Secretariat on Saturday has resulted in the decision to withdraw the 2014 Police Act.

Like in Karnataka, the state government can appoint the DGP without the intervention of the Union government. The Cabinet will approve the ordinance on this and send it to the Governor.

With the new ordinance, the government will have the provision to list out three officials and select one as DGP. There will be no need of sending the list to the Centre.

The Cabinet has taken one more decision and that is to constitute 9 new mandals. Three new mandals each will be constituted in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

In addition, the districts of Guntur, Kurnool and Nellore will have one new urban mandal each: Vijayawada 2, Vijayawada 3, Vijayawada 4 in Vijayawada, Visakha 2, Visakha 3, Visakha 4 in Visakhapatnam and Guntur Urban, Nellore Urban, Kurnool Urban are the names of the new mandals.

The AP Cabinet has also discussed the Polavaram Project. The Chief Minister has briefed the Cabinet about the discussions between him and the Central minister Nitin Gadkari at Delhi. The Cabinet has also decided to postpone the new tenders of Rs 1,483 crore spillway works.
