E and V Band Spectrum to be Auctioned

New Delhi Dec 17: The Telecom department may soon add new hertz of frequencies to the Auction List.The Department may soon Auction the E and V bands which are required to connect mobile towers.

Officials have told that "The working group on microwave access and microwave backbone at the DoT is largely in favor of allocating E and V band spectrum through auction. The report of the committee will be placed before the Telecom Commission in its meeting scheduled for December 21."

Sources said that data through E band (71-76 Gigahertz frequency and 81-86 GHz) and V band (57-64 GHz frequency range) can be transmitted with a speed of around 1,000 megabits per second. The Spectrum can also be used for developing 5G ecosystems and also help in reducing the Optical Fibre Companies.

TRAI has recommended that "E-band spectrum should be charged at Rs. 10,000 per annum per slot of 250 MHz each and there should be an initial promotional discount of 50 percent for three years from the date of allocation of the first carrier in this band."

The regulator had added that "spectrum in V-band, a charge of Rs. 1,000 per annum per slot of 50 MHz each should be charged".

Currently, the spectrums are allocated based on payment of the fixed fee .
