Coal scam case :Former Jharkhand Cheif Minister Madhu Koda sentenced to 3 years jail

NewDelhi Dec 16: A special CBI court Today has awarded three-year imprisonment to former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, ex-coal secretary H C Gupta and two others in a coal block allocation scam.

The court has also awarded a Fine of Rs 50 lakh on the Kolkata-based firm Vini Iron & Steel Udyog Ltd. Along with the rigorous imprisonment, Former CM has been fined Rs 5 lakh and Gupta for Rs 1,00,000 or 2 months. A fine of Rs 45 lakh has been imposed on Vijay Joshi, and Rs 1,00,000 on ex-Jharkhand chief secretary A K Basu.



The court had on Wednesday convicted the four in a case pertaining to irregularities in allocation of Rajhara North coal block in Jharkhand to Vini Iron & Steel Udyog Ltd. Earlier CBI had alleged that a criminal conspiracy in the coal block allocation and certain facts were not reported to Former PM Manmohan Singh.

The CBI had filed cases against the leaders as a part of an investigation in the Coal block allocation scam and there were estimates that the exchequer had to face a loss of Rs 1.86 lakh Cr by allocating coal mimes arbitrarily and not by auction.
