Mallya Defense : Indian Jails are overcrowded and Un-hygiene

London Dec 15: The extradition trial of the Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya has been put off the next year. Earlier the fugitive's lawyer in the court had argued that the conditions in Indian jails are unsafe and the Jails are overcrowded.

Vijay Mallya's barrister, Clare Montgomery had argued that "conditions in Barrack 12 of Mumbai Central Prison on Arthur Road, where the 61-year-old businessman is to be held, were far from satisfactory ".

The defense also cited the conditions of Chennai Six, a group of British men intercepted by the Indian coast guard in 2013 and said that the jail contained Snakes, rats, one meager meal a day and denial of medical treatment to a person diagnosed with cancer.

The Lawyers argued that Mallya had medical problems and finally urged the Indian government to provide better facilities. Defunct Kingfisher Airlines is accused of duping the banks of Rs 9000 Cr.
