8 states support Bill against Triple Talaq

NewDelhi Dec 15: The winter session of the parliament has begun and the government hopes to pass some crucial bills and some of them include punishment for triple talaq. The law commission had already sent the draft to the states and sought their opinion and currently, 8 states have supported the bill.

According to the draft of ' The Muslim Women Protection of Rights in Marriage Act' instant triple talaq (talaq-e-biddat) — proclaimed verbally, through writing or any electronic form is banned and it is a cognizable and non-bailable offense.



Under the law 3 years, the jail term is being proposed for the offenders and women would get subsistance allowance and the women can seek the custody of her children when she approaches court. Sources said that many states would express their opinion in upcoming weeks .

The government hopes that the bill would be passed in this session itself as the supreme court had earlier banned the instant talaq.
