China denies plan of diverting Brahmaputra water; No tunnel

Beijing, Dec 13: Highly polluted water flowing into India from China through Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh which even contained blackened, muddy waters with cement and sledge raised the speculation about tunnel being constructed on Chinese side to divert Brahmaputra water.

Reports suggested that China is building 1000km long tunnel to divert Brahmaputra water to regions in Xinjiang.

On Wednesday, China denied any such plans, Chinese spokesperson Lu Kang said "I would like to point out that China's position on the eastern part of the China-India border is consistent and clear" in response to a question about muddy water flowing in India through China.

"I have never heard of the project mentioned by the Indian side. It is hoped that the Indian side will not conduct unfounded speculation and reports," he added.
