GHMC to takeup Road repair works costs Rs.455 Cr

Hyderabad, Dec 12: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is going ahead with its preventive maintenance plan of city roads even in the absence of a funding commitment from the State government. And it will experiment with over 400 lane km of white topping.

In a statement on Monday, the civic body informed that it has chalked out a plan to complete major road repairs in the city by March 31 next year.

Works costing Rs. 455 crore will be taken up for repair of BT roads and CC roads besides white topping of a few stretches. Of this, Rs. 236 crore will be spent on the white topping at 103 locations, covering over 400 lane km. Each lane km of white topping will cost Rs. 56 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh.

Besides, at 158 locations, instead of the regular patchwork, the roads will be properly relaid after the milling, estimated to cost Rs. 155 crore. At 60 locations, CC roads will be laid at a cost of Rs. 64 crore.

Road maintenance will be taken up in a methodical way, duly prioritizing the bad roads, the statement from GHMC said.

Funding for the road maintenance may be raised through issue of bonds or loans, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy informed. The Government has sanctioned permission for the civic body to issue bonds worth Rs. 1,000 crore and avail loan up to Rs. 2,500 crore.
