ED summons 400 people in Panama Papers leaks

New Delhi Dec 9: The Enforcement Directorate had issued summons to 400 people whose names have been appeared in Panama Papers leaks which were revealed in 2016.

The Panama papers are the documents in which have exposed how global leaders have established offshore entities to park funds and there were approximately 500 Indians whose names have been appeared in the list.

Sources said that ED has sought information from 400 people seeking explanations for overseas investments made since 2004. The probe agency had also sought explanation on investment vehicles registered outside India and whether HNIs had followed domestic regulations.

Some of the high-profile individuals, including Bollywood personalities such as Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, received similar summons few months ago.

Sources revealed that Earlier Tax department had also issued notices and also sought an explanation in this issue.The summons are a part of an investigation launched by Multi-group Agency which was formed to investigate Panama and Paradise papers.
