UN official to visit North Korea; rare visit in six year

North Korea Dec 05: United Nation's political affairs chief ,Jeffrey Feltman began four day trip to North Korea.

This is a rare trip as none from UN has officially visited North Korea in six years.

The invitation to UN was sent by North Korea in September for "Policy dialogue".

Mr Feltman, a former US diplomat and the highest ranking American in the UN, will be in Pyongyang until Friday. His visit comes as South Korea and the US conduct their largest ever round of aerial drills.



The visit started just a week after the launch of new missile by North Korea.

The visit will focus on "issues of mutual interest and concern" according to UN spokesperson.

Mr Feltman will meet senior North Korean officials including foreign minister Ri Yong-ho but his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong un is not scheduled.
