King Michael 1 of Romania dies due to cancer

Switzerland Dec 5: King Michael 1 of Romania has died in Switzerland today. He was 96 year old.

King Michael was diagonised with cancer last year and underwent surgery for leukaemia and cancer. King Michael ruled Romania twice, first in the 1920s, when he was just five years old, and then again in the 1940s.

He was one of the last people alive to have served as a head of state during World War Two. A cousin of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, Michael was forced to abdicate in 1947 after the post-war Communist takeover of Romania and has lived in exile in the West for decades.
