Vijay Mallyas Extradition hearing continues on second day

London Dec 5: The hearing of Extradition of Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya from the UK to India has continued for the second day in the Westminster Magistrate's Court. On Monday the prosecution put forth arguments stating that the actions of Mr. Mallya is not that of an honest person.

However, on Tuesday the defense has put forth its arguments Clare Montgomery, defense barrister for Mallya says, "There is no evidence for the government to support the case they advance."

"Could a reasonable jury reach a safe conclusion that this was a deliberate plan to go to IDBI Bank to raise the money and default on that loan.or was it a business failure?"

"Is it possible for a jury to safely conclude that can be excluded?.When this is the question you realize the government's case cannot succeed." she tells Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot.

Earlier the prosecution had made an argument that he had cheated the banks and he is a prima facie guilty and must be extradited. Currently, the liquor baron owes Rs 9,000 crore to banks and he has fled India in March 2016 and has settled in London. Earlier he was arrested twice but got bail.
