Corrupt Officials face heat :ACB to share details with IT and ED

Hyderabad Dec 5: In a move to ensure that public servants who earn disproportionate assets would not get away free the Anti Corruption Bureau Officials have decided to hand over the details of the cases to Income tax departments and Enforcement Directorate so that they too can investigate the cases.

ACB Director General J Purnachandra Rao said that "From now onwards, an officer nabbed in disproportionate assets case cannot escape with only the PC Act.The I-T and ED will also probe against the officer and if proved guilty, he will have to undergo seven years of imprisonment."

Officials have said that "The I-T department will inquire into the alleged disproportionate assets of public servants under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act and ED will investigate under provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act."

Currently, ACB feels that move to refer cases to IT and ED would become a deterrent for public servants to take bribes and earn huge assets as they would face life term imprisonment if booked under ED.
