DOT releases guidelines for Mobile re-verification of NRIs

New Delhi Dec 2: In a move to ensure easy re-verification of SIM cards for Foreigners and NRIS the Department of Telecom has laid out a process that would be followed by telecom operators and the department has ordered to complete the process by 1 Jan 2018.

DOT has set out the guidelines for foreigners and NRI's who don't have Aadhar or their mobile number is not registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Guidelines were also issued for re-verification procedure for senior citizens who are above 70 years not having Aadhaar, are unable to do biometric authentication or are physically challenged.

Earlier the DOT has said that alternative methods can also be used to ensure that all persons can verify the sim and link up with Aadhar and also launched IVRS-OTP Method for customers who have linked Aadhar with Sim.

However, the Telecom operators said that the guidelines issued for foreigners, NRIs and senior citizens are complex and urged the department to ease them.
