Telangana bags 2nd rank in cheating cases

Hyderabad, Dec 2: The state of Telangana has notched up the dubious distinction of gaining the second rank in cheating.

As per the statistics put out by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there were 8,394 cases of cheating registered in the state in 2016.

Maharashtra topped the list followed by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The silver lining however, is that there was a drop in the number of cheating cases in the state capital. In Hyderabad, total number of cheating cases in the year dipped from 2,171 to 2,081. At the same time, cases involved in criminal breach of trust went up marginally, while forgery cases were a negligible 23 in 2016.

Among other reasons, the general decline in the crime rate as such is attributed to more proactive policing by the Telangana state police including the deployment of SHE teams, enhanced CCTV surveillance and hawk-eye to bolster the security system.
