APCC team to meet Union Minister on Polavaram project issue

Vijayawada, Dec 1: The APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy has expressed anger over the attitude of the Centre on the Polavaram project and announced that a team would meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said that a PCC team would meet Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari on December 5 to discuss the Polavaram project issue. The team would also submit a representation to the Minister urging him not to put hurdles in the construction of the project.

The APCC President reminded that during the Congress regime, during 2004-2014 in the combined AP state, canals were dug up to the Polavaram project at a cost of Rs.5,136 crore.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu compromised with the Centre on the Special Category Status (SCS) issue and now he failed in getting needed approvals and funds for the construction of Polavaram project from the Centre, the APCC President added.

The Congress activists burnt the effigies, symbolizing the State and Central governments. Former Union Minister Kelli Kruparani and APCC Vice-president Tulasi Reddy were also present.
