100 yrs for Rs. 1 note; Silver coins replaced

Hyderabad, Nov 30: This is the day that remarks the completion of 100th year for Rs.1 note. On November 30, 1917, the first rupee in England was worth a note.

The picture of British Emperor King George 5 was printed on it. Even though the Government of India has printed currency notes from 1861, the printing of Rs. 1 note began in 1917.

The Silver coins of Rs. 1 which were in circulation at that time were used to prepare weapons for the First World War. Then the silver coins were replaced by Rs. 1 note for circulation.



The Rs. 1 note is still available. These notes are being used as presentations to gift at festivals, functions (or) marriages etc., Not only that, The online retailers say in some cases, 100 notes of Rs. 1 note will be sold at Rs. 15000/-.
