Aadhaar number must for online Check-in of Jet Airways

India Nov 27: Aadhaar verification at the airline check in websites have been started which has shocked many travellers, as the Aadhaar number was printed on the boarding pass.

Publishing Aadhaar Number publicly is an offence under the Aadhaar Act 2016, but the security of Aadhaar is at low level with details getting openly displayed on government websites.

"The unregulated proliferation of Aadhaar uses is compromising the digital identities of citizens and putting them at risk," said Usha Ramanathan, a legal theorist who has written extensively on Aadhaar. "There is a misconception that data protection is about data being at risk. It is actually about the rights of people being at risk."

One of the traveller, told a new portal that his airline didn't let him check in online without entering Aadhaar number, the airline he mentioned was jet airways.
