Armed force to be withdrawn from Darjeeling; Deploy in Gujarat: SC

Finally, the Supreme Court has given permission to the Centre, to withdraw half of the armed force from Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal and deploy them in poll-bound Gujarat.

Four to eight companies of Central Armed Paramilitary forces from strife-torn West Bengal will soon be moved to Gujarat.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud has accepted the Centre's plea of force deployment.

The apex court had earlier on October 27 permitted the Centre to withdraw seven of the 15 companies of CAPF from Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts for deployment along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir and in the north-eastern states and to the poll-bound states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
