Telangana Kaleshwaram project gets second phase environmental clearance

Hyderabad Nov 24: In a major relief for Telangana Government the central government has granted the second phase of Environmental Clearance for Kaleshwaram project.The first phase of the clearance was issued on October 24.The project has also got clearance from other departments and also 2 more crucial clearances were issued two days back.

The Environment and Forest Department has informed the state government in this regard. Under the clearance issued the State government can use 3168.131 hectares land of forest land for construction of tunnels, canal, powerlifts, storage dams under the project.



Earlier the forest department has said that it would give second clearance after the deposit of Rs 722 cr as a forest compensation.However, the Telangana state Irrigation minister Harish Rao has met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and other officials and urged them to grant the clearances and the departments have issued clearances.

Currently, the project works are going at a fast pace even though earlier NGT had issued orders to stop the work however the high court has granted relief for the state government.
