Removal of S.Durga and Nude led Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh resign as head of jury

The information and broadcasting ministry pulled out Malayalam movie S Durga and Marathi film Nude from the 48th edition of the film festival, to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28 which led to a controversy. Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh has resigned as head of the jury of IFFI’s Indian Panorama section due to the removal of these two movies.

The ministry neither cared about the recommendation of 13 member jury panel nor the awards one of the movie won. It didn't even gave any reason for the removal, delayed displaying the list of movie till the end and gave sudden shock to the directors and the jury.

When asked Sujoy if he has resigned as jury head in the wake of the controversy, he said “Yes, but I can’t say anything more than that right now.”

Several jury members expressed their displeasure over the ministry’s move to drop the films from the list they submitted. It was an unprecedented move, a jury member said.
