BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya demands Rs. 1,000 bonus for cotton farmers

Khammam, Nov 13: The Former Union Minister and BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya has demanded on Sunday that the State Government provide a bonus of Rs.1,000 per quintal of cotton for the distressed cotton farmers in the State.

While speaking to media persons at Khammam here on Sunday, Mr.Dattatreya, who was in the town to review the party's affairs in the district, expressed serious concern over the plight of distraught farmers.

The cotton growers are passing through severe ordeal due to the apathetic attitude of the State Government towards resolving the issues confronting them, he charged, alleging that the farmers were struggling to secure the minimum support price for their produce at the market yards in various parts of the State.

"The unabated suicides by distressed farmers in the State exposes the enormity of the crisis plaguing the distraught cotton growers across the State," he said.

He said that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) should ensure speedy purchase of the entire cotton produce from farmers at the MSP. He wanted the State Government to promptly release its share of a grant towards the Pradhan Mantri Faisal Bhima Yojana.
