Union cabinet Approves establishment of National Testing Agency NTA

New Delhi Nov 11: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi has taken crucial decisions yesterday.

# Approval for setting up of National Testing Agency (NTA) :
The Authority would conduct entrance examinations for all higher educations.

Prakash Javedekar the HRD Minister has called the move historic and said that this would free up CBSE and other institutes so that they can work efficiently.

In the first phase tests Conducted by CBSE would be taken up by NTA which include IIT JEE- For entrance into NIT and IITs NEET-UG - For entrance into medical and dental colleges NET- for admission of P.H.D and Assitant professors conducted By UGC

The exams would be conducted online twice in a year and exam centers would be located in districts so that rural students would be benefitted.

Officials hope that this decision would relieve CBSE, AICTE, UGC and other technical institutions This decision was earlier announced in Union Budget 2017.

The cabinet has also approved the amendments to
National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993.The Amendments include retrospective recognition for institutions who have conducted Teacher Education Courses (TCE) without the approval of NCTE.
