SNC-Lavalin construction company bagged NHAI contracts via Maritius route

New Delhi Nov 10: The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has brought out paradise papers - the documents to shun the light on offshore entities.

The documents reveal that how an SNC-Lavalin is a Montreal-based engineering major company which is being probed for corruption Charges in India has setup offshore companies.

Kerala CM Clean chit

SNC--Lavalin bagged the contract of renovation and modernisation of hydro-electric power stations in Kerala and there were alegations that the company has bribed the present CM Pinarayi Vijayan and power minister in the state in 2008 for the contract and tehre was a loss of Rs 370 crore for the state.However, the CM name was given clean chit by Kerala High court.

Gadaffi case 2

The company was also involved in the controversy over allegations of payoffs to family members and officials who worked for Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Documents reveal the details of bribes and lavish gifts the company allegedly given to Gaddafi’s son, Saadi Gaddafi to win contracts in Lybia.

Rayalaseema Expressway Mauritius Route

Earlier the company in 2010 has announced that it had taken a significant stake in Rayalseema Expressway Limited (REL), a consortium of companies to build and operate National Highway 18 for the NHAI connecting Cuddappah and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh.

The company has set up units in Mauritius and had tied up with Piramal Roads Infra Pvt Ltd to build the Rayalseema Expressway but the NHAI delisted the company.

The NHAI records show that the company has bagged the following contracts

# 66 km road stretch in Rajasthan between Bhilwara bypass and Chittorgarh- 2001

# 6- laning of the Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur highway in 2009.

# 4- laning of the New Mangalore Port in 2005.

# Ghaziabad-Aligarh highway in 2011 .
