Telangana State Waqf Board office sealed

Hyderabad, Nov 8: The Telangana Revenue and police officials arrived at the Telangana State Waqf Board office and sealed the premises late on Tuesday night.

Shocked employees who did not wish to be identified said police and revenue officials arrived a little after 9 pm and confiscated their phones and barred them from making calls. The District Collector arrived on the scene around 9.30 pm.

Telangana State Waqf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem told media that the orders to seal the office came from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. "I am told that the Chief Minister had a review meeting with board officials after which the order was given to the District Collector to seal the office. I was not present at the meeting but we are with the CM’s decision ," Mr Saleem said.



Staff said the sealing of the office began with the records section. Around three dozen files from the chief executive officer's chambers were moved to another room which was then sealed.

"There were around 100 officials from the police and revenue departments here. Most of the office is already sealed. We were given our phones around 11 pm," a member of the staff said.

Chief executive officer M A Mannan Farooqui and Minorities Welfare Department Secretary Syed Omer Jaleel was unavailable for comment.
