CM KCR: Khammam to get back merged villages of AP

The Telangana state is likely to get back some of the villages of Khammam district which were merged with AP after bifurcation.

The Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao told the Assembly on Tuesday that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had agreed in principle to transfer the villages back to the state. He said that roads and buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who belongs to Khammam district, was overseeing the matter.

After bifurcation, AP had demanded seven Mandals in Khammam district that was in the submergence area of the Polavaram project. The Centre amended the AP Reorganisation Act and merged 211 villages in AP.



The issue came up during the discussion on purification of land records when CPM legislator Sunnam Rajaiah said the Bhadrachalam temple was in Telangana state while 930 acres belonging to the temple were in AP. "God is ours and lands are in AP," he said.

Reacting to this, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said no one could take rights over temple lands. He said some land in TS belonged to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasathanams. He said the government was in discussions with AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to get back some villages.
