DMK to go ahead with demonetisation protests

Chennai, Nov 7: The DMK will organise protests as part of the Opposition's "Black Day" campaign on Wednesday against the Centre's demonetisation decision, notwithstanding speculation that the BJP was cosying up to the regional party after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call on the ailing DMK President M. Karunanidhi.

M.K. Stalin, DMK's Working President, left for Madurai to participate in a protest there while his sister Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha member, will be present in Coimbatore.

The party called off the protests only in rain-affected Chennai and other coastal districts but decided to go ahead with it in other districts.

The DMK in a statement urged traders, workers and others affected by demonetisation to wear black badges on Wednesday.

Modi's meeting with Karunanidhi on Monday had sparked speculation that the two parties may be on a path of reconciliation with reports even saying the party had called off the anti-demonetisation protests.
