Chennai Troubled by Heavy rains

Chennai City had a downpour on Thursday and the night next day.The heavy rain which lashed the city gave relief to the people in one way and in other way caused inconvenience to the public. The Northeast monsoon in the previous record in 1976 was the highest rainfall of 485mm and in 2015 it was around 245mm on a single day.

Chennai received almost 58% of average seasonal rainfall on Friday and thus inundating so many low lying areas.Road traffic problems troubled the public two consecutive days. Schools declared holiday on Saturday.The residential areas of former CM Karunanidhi and some other VIPs were also hit by the water problem.

The CM Palanaswamy took care to see disaster management departments of state and center help the people.The Food, water packets were supplied to needy. The CM took for the opportunity to say that late CM Jayalalitha took so many measure and that is why this time the people did not face much trouble.

Film actors like Vishal came out to help the people. It may be noted that last time actor Kamal Hassan criticised the political leaders and authorities for poor maintenance.

The CM and Deputy CM visited Perumalathur and took stock of the situation.He also said due to the forethought of Amma in 2015 this time Chennai was not troubled by rains, unlike Bengaluru and Mumbai.These cities have to suffer heavily due to rains recently.

It is also observed that in one week above 74% of Northeast monsoon was received by Chennai in one week itself by Meteorological department.

Though the level of problems are not too high like the last time, it is necessary to see what more can be done to stop the reoccurance of such problems.
