India Sucessfully Tests glide bomb

New Delhi Nov 4: In a major boost to Indian defense, the country has successfully test-fired an indigenously-developed lightweight 'glide bomb' yesterday.

The 'smart anti-airfield weapon' (SAAW) was developed with the collaboration of the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force.

The defense ministry has said that "the guided bomb released from the aircraft and guided through precision navigation system, reached the targets at greater than 70 km range, with high accuracies."

Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated the DRDO scientists and the IAF for the successful tests.

The main specialties of the SAAW are

# It is a 120 kg smart weapon

# Capable of engaging targets with high precision up to a range of 100 km

# Targets across the border can be hit without putting the pilot and aircraft at risk.

# The weapon can be used to destroy bunkers, runways, aircraft hangers and other reinforced structures.

The development comes as a big boost to the military because this weapon enhances the military capability .
