Chennai Flooded,Heavy rains disrupt life

Chennai Nov 3: Chennai has become to a standstill as heavy rains have continued to drown the city with heavy floods.India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday has said that"Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain in the next 24 hours".

"Yesterday's low-pressure area over Sri Lanka and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal now lies over southwest Bay of Bengal off the coasts of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. Rainfall activity will continue over north coastal Tamil Nadu with heavy to very heavy rain over Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts during next 24 hours."Area cyclone warning centre director
S Balachandran said.

Chennai recorded around 20cm rainfall in last 24 hours and several roads and streets across the city were flodded with water. Some of the waterlogged roads include 100 Feet Road (near Olympia Tech Park), OMR, Velachery-Saidapet Road, Vivekananda College Road and Sterling Road.

The schools and colleges are shut today and the city officials are evacuating the people from low lying areas and rescue operation is going on.
