Vijayawada, Nov 02: The Union government has issued a notification in compliance with a request made by the government of Andhra Pradesh to extend the validity of the local status accorded to migrants from Telangana state by two years.

When the government of Andhra Pradesh shifted from Hyderabad to Amaravati, the Centre issued a notification amending Article 371D to give migrants from Telangana local status with respect to education and employment. This provision was implemented on June 2, 2014, and was to have been applicable for a period of three years.

After the completion of the three-year period, the State government requested the Central government to extend the validity of the provision by two years. The Central government has accordingly issued a gazette notification in this regard.
