Catalonia: Spain direct control on Catalonia; Life resumes normally

Catalonia, triggered Spain's biggest political crisis by declaring independence , but the Spanish courts called it illegal.

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy even warned Catalonia even before declaring independence but as the crisis didn't stop and independence was declared after voting, he assumed direct control of the region on Friday, sacked its government and called a snap election for December 21.

But the prominent members of the Catalan administration had said that they would not accept the move and only Catalonia's people could remove them. The member who opposed Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy were president Carles Puigdemont and vice-president Oriol Junqueras of Catalonia among many others.

The public sector such as teachers, firefighters and the police were asked to refuse orders from the central authorities and participate in civil disobedience movement by the civic groups.

But Work resumed normally in Catalonia and calm reigned on the streets on Monday .
