Singer S Janaki has ended her singing career

Bangalore, October 29: Legendary singer S Janaki has ended her singing career with her last public concert at the amphitheater at Manasaganothri in Mysuru on Saturday night.

S Janaki lovingly called the Nightingale of the South by millions.

She has given her good musical numbers for several films and has stopped her singing on the platforms for quite some time. She took part in her last musical concert at Mysore on Rajanagiri to help donate the money to a company.

The 79-year old playback singer ended her career with a public concert in Mysuru on Saturday night. "I am happy with my career. I want to stop singing when I am doing well. This is also to make way for several young and new artists," she said.



The audience at the Manasaganothri amphitheater gave her a standing ovation and Janaki who arrived with her son Murali Krishna was emotional at the response. Music director Raja Nagendra and Kannada film artistes Jayanthi, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan and Hema Chaudhary were among those who turned up for the concert.

"I made my foray in singing n 1957," she told the audience. "I am content having sung so many songs. And this is going to be my last programme," she stated.
