Bengaluru Oct 26: A Kingpin of fake stamp paper racket Abdul Karim Telgi has passed away today at a hospital in Bengaluru.Telgi name was popular because of the multi-crore counterfeit stamp paper has shaken the nation in 2002.

Telgi was arrested and he was serving his 30-year jail term in Bengaluru.Recently a report by DIG Roopa to expose the VIP Treatment given to Sasikala has also mentioned his name and said that some special treatments were also provided to him.

The Timeline and Modus Operandi of fake Stamp paper scam

# 1994- Abdul Karim Telgi acquired a stamp paper license and procured machinery from Nashik Security Press using political connections.

# 1995- He started printing counterfeit stamp paper, judicial court fee stamps, non-judicial stamps, revenue stamps, special adhesive stamps, notarial stamps, foreign bills, brokers notes, insurance policies, share transfer certificates and insurance agency stamps.



# 1995-2003 - Fake stamp papers were sold to banks, insurance companies, and stock brokerage firm business, appointed as many as 350 people as agents.

# 2003-November Telgi was arrested and 27 cases were registered against him.

# 2007 -Telgi sentenced to 13 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 202 crore was imposed.The total scam was estimated to be approximately around Rs 25,000 crore.

He was convicted for offenses under Sections 255(counterfeiting government stamp), 259 ( possession counterfeit government stamp), 420 (forgery for cheating) and 120B of IPC (criminal conspiracy)

# 2017- His VIP Treatment exposed and he was joined in Hospital as he was suffering from diabetes and Hypertension and diagnosed for HIV/AIDS.

# 26-OCT 2017 -Telgi passes away in Bengaluru.
