NGT :Kaleshwaram project halted because of lack of approvals

Hyderabad Oct 25: The Telangana Govt has once again faced Embarrassment as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has once again supported its decision of stopping the ongoing works of Kaleshwaram projects in Telangana. The Tribunal has said that we haved issued orders after we have found that the government has started construction even though the environmental clearances were not approved.

The Tribunal has also said that
# Maharashtra government has serious objections against the project these were not considered.
# The government has failed to obtain environmental clearances for the works to be done in the forest land.



However, the government has opposed the NGT order and told the High court that the NGT has issued orders which are beyond its purview and the Tribunal has not considered their argument and their concerns were not addressed.

Kalaeshwaram project is a prestigious irrigation project taken up by the Telangana Government under which dams would be built on Godavari river.
